The teaching of Modern Foreign Languages provides a unique opportunity for students to experience aspects of another culture, encouraging them to accept diversity and understand the unfamiliar. At Ashley High School, reading, writing, speaking and listening and responding to German and French gives the students a sense of discovery and achievement that deepens their understanding of their own language and develops their capacity to communicate effectively. Many of the skills involved are clearly transferable to the student's acquisition and development of English Language skills.
In the classroom students take part in a wide range of activities, games, songs, puzzles and short dialogues that place the emphasis on having fun whilst they learn and ensures that they enjoy the experience.
Year 7 students currently complete a short study of another country and its language, as part of their 'Wider World' studies.
