Coastal School

About Us

As educationalists, we are becoming more creative in using the outdoors as a classroom and as a nation, more aware of the hidden potential of the outdoors and the importance of looking after it. Coastal School is run in addition to Forest School as we believe that by introducing our students to the coastal areas in the North West, it will instil a love and respect for part of the 11,000 miles of shore line that surrounds the British Isles.

What is Coastal School?

Coastal School is a method of Outdoor Education which allows the development of social, emotional & communication skills, confidence, independence, self-esteem and awareness of the natural environment through play and exploration, using their senses. This is done in a natural environment with students learning how to handle risks, an understanding of boundaries, using their own initiative to solve problems and co-operate with others. Sessions will be carried out at a variety of beach settings in the North West.

Environmental Considerations and Conservation

One of the principles of Coastal School is to promote environmental awareness and encourage sustainability. Students are taught to respect and take responsibility for their planet. Students will learn to respect the environment, especially the coastal area including the seas and oceans. During our sessions we will only use materials that we find on the floor.
